Welcome to your student portal. This guide will help you get started with your training, from logging in to completing your onboarding steps and accessing your courses.

Access required

Use the student portal sign-in link for your own learner account. Complete the onboarding steps requested for your enrolment; you do not need a staff role.

Logging in

To access the student portal:

  1. Go to your provider's portal login page. This is usually at yourprovider.rtobase.com.au/login, or at your provider's own branded web address if they use one (for example learn.yourprovider.com.au/login). If your provider has a website, you can also click Student Portal or Login there.
  2. Enter your email address
  3. Click Send Magic Link
  4. Check your email and click the Sign in to Portal link

The portal lets you view your enrolments, check class schedules, complete assessments, and download issued completion documents. The magic link is valid for 24 hours. If it expires, simply request a new one.

When a required-document reminder brings you to the login page, the sign-in link returns you to that course's document checklist. Review the documents there and confirm each mandatory item.

Onboarding steps

Before you can access your courses, you'll need to complete a few onboarding steps. The portal guides you through each one automatically, you won't be able to skip ahead until each step is done.

Step 1: Language, Literacy, and Numeracy assessment (if required)

Some courses require a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy assessment before your enrolment is confirmed. If your course requires one, you'll be directed to it automatically after logging in.

This assessment covers:

  • Reading comprehension
  • Writing skills
  • Numeracy (working with numbers)
  • Digital literacy (using computers and technology)

It typically takes 15 to 30 minutes. Once you complete it, your results are reviewed (some are marked automatically). You won't need to complete this assessment again for future courses with the same training provider.

Note

This is not a pass/fail exam, it helps your training provider understand your learning needs and provide the right support for you.

Step 2: Training details survey

After the language and numeracy assessment (or immediately after login if none is required), you'll need to complete a short survey about yourself. The Australian government requires this information for all nationally recognised training.

The survey is a 5-step form that asks about:

  • Personal details: date of birth, gender, Indigenous status
  • Contact information: mobile number, full address
  • Education background: highest school level, prior qualifications, employment status
  • Cultural background: language spoken at home, country of birth
  • Disability: whether you have a disability (optional, you can select "Not stated")

Your details are kept confidential and only used for government reporting purposes.

Step 3: Unique Student Identifier (USI)

After completing the survey, you'll be prompted to enter your Unique Student Identifier (USI). This is a 10-character code (letters and numbers) that creates a secure online record of all your nationally recognised training in Australia. Every student doing accredited training in Australia needs one.

You can skip this step by clicking Skip for now. The USI prompt comes back on your next visit to the portal until you provide it. The USI page has the same Skip for now button, which takes you back to Home.

Already have a USI? Enter it directly, the system accepts letters and numbers, exactly 10 characters.

Don't have a USI yet? You can create one for free:

  1. Visit usi.gov.au
  2. Create a myGov account (or use an existing one)
  3. Verify your identity with a valid ID (driver's licence, passport, or Medicare card)
  4. You'll receive your 10-character code immediately

Note

Your USI is valid for life. If you've done any accredited training since 2015, you likely already have one. Visit usi.gov.au to find it.

Step 4: Identity verification

Once you're in the portal, you may see a banner asking you to verify your identity. Upload a photo of a government-issued ID. Your RTO chooses which document types are accepted (driver's licence, passport, or other photo ID). A staff member reviews and confirms every upload. If your course requires identity verification, you must complete it before downloading that course's completion document.

After completing your onboarding, the portal has four sections. On a wide screen they are tabs in the header. On a phone they are tabs along the bottom of the screen.

Home

Home greets you by name. Do this next brings together the work that needs you across all your enrolments, including Forms and assessment tasks. Waiting on someone else separates work held by your provider, employer or third party. Open an enrolment to see what is done and what is still owed.

Your current enrolment appears first, with its progress, what is left to do, and Start or Continue to open the course. Requirements opens the enrolment's checklist. Your other courses are listed below under In Progress, Ready to Start and Completed.

Beside them, or below them on a phone, you see your Next session with View schedule, and a link to your Completion documents.

Your course pages, course resources and enrolment pages all open from Home.

Schedule

My Schedule lists your class days and booked sessions. Book a Session appears here when your training provider lets you book sessions yourself.

My work

Assessment Tasks, Forms and Results live here. Forms and assessment tasks are grouped into work for you, work waiting on others and completed work. Only work that needs you counts on My work; submitted work awaiting review does not.

Certificates

Download your issued Statement of Attainment, non-accredited Statement of Completion, or Qualification Certificate. Identity verification may be required, and nationally recognised documents require a short learner survey before download.

Account menu

Select your name to open the account menu. It holds My CPD (when your provider has registered you for a CPD scheme), Identity check (when your provider asks for one), Complaints & Appeals, Help & Support, Settings and Sign out.

Links in emails and bookmarks keep working: every page has the same address as before.
