Assessments are how you demonstrate your knowledge and skills. This guide covers both course assessments and the Language, Literacy, and Numeracy assessment.

Access required

Sign in as the learner. Only assessments assigned to your own enrolment are available; release, attempt and prerequisite rules still apply.

Language, Literacy, and Numeracy assessment

What is it?

Before some courses begin, your training provider may require you to complete a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy assessment. This helps identify your current skills in:

  • Reading: Understanding written information
  • Writing: Expressing ideas in writing
  • Numeracy: Working with numbers and measurements
  • Oral communication: Speaking and listening (if applicable)
  • Digital literacy: Using computers and technology

Why is it required?

This assessment helps your training provider:

  • Understand your learning needs
  • Provide appropriate support
  • Ensure you can successfully complete your course
  • Meet government requirements

Completing the assessment

  1. If your course requires this assessment, you'll be directed to it automatically when you log into the portal
  2. Answer all questions honestly, there are no wrong answers
  3. Submit when finished

The assessment typically takes 15 to 30 minutes.

Note

This is not a pass/fail exam. It helps your training provider understand your needs. Once completed, you won't need to do it again for future courses with the same training provider.

After the assessment

Your results are reviewed by your training provider (some are marked automatically). They may:

  • Contact you to discuss support options
  • Provide additional resources
  • Assign a learning support officer
  • Adjust delivery methods to suit your needs

Understanding your results

Satisfactory

You've demonstrated competency. The unit is complete.

Support Required

Your trainer needs more information or you need to improve some answers. You can:

  1. Review the feedback provided
  2. Revisit the relevant course content
  3. Resubmit with improved answers

Not Satisfactory

You haven't yet demonstrated competency. You'll need to:

  3. Contact your trainer if you need help
  4. Resubmit when ready

Per-question feedback

After your assessment is marked, you can see a detailed breakdown for each question:

  • A checkmark or cross indicator showing whether each answer was correct
  • Your score for each question (e.g., "2/3 marks")
  • Trainer feedback specific to each question (if provided)
  • Correct answers or hints (if your trainer has enabled them)

Questions that were marked incorrect or unscored are automatically expanded so you can focus on areas for improvement.

How many attempts?

You typically get multiple attempts to complete each assessment. Check with your training provider for their specific policy.
