Course Player
Learn how to navigate your Online Lessons and track your training progress.
Last updated 22 Oct 2026
The course player is where you access and complete your online learning content.
Access required
Sign in as the learner with an eligible enrolment in the course. Release, location, prerequisite and completion gates still apply to your course player.
Accessing the course player
- Open Home
- Click Start or Continue on your course card
Course structure
Your course contains an ordered list of lessons, each organised into topics. Each lesson can contain:
- Content pages and interactive widgets
- Practice knowledge checks
- Automatically or trainer-marked formal assessments
- Required SCORM learning activities
- Lesson resources and private page notes
A formal assessment can remain Awaiting Review until a trainer marks it. If a result is Not Satisfactory, a retry keeps previously satisfactory answers locked and clearly identifies what needs to be redone.
Navigating the course
Sidebar
The desktop sidebar shows the available lessons and topics. On a smaller screen, use Open course contents to open the same navigation in a sheet.
- Green checkmark = completed
- Current topic is highlighted
- Locked topics are greyed out (complete prerequisites first)
With your trainer
If your course includes activities you do with your trainer, the sidebar lists them under With your trainer. Each one shows whether it is Training or Practice and what your trainer recorded: Attended, Done, Not yet or Not recorded yet. Your trainer records these on the day. You cannot change them yourself.
Progress bar
The bar at the top shows your overall completion percentage.
Navigation buttons
Use Previous and Next to move through the available content. In Linear mode, later topics or lessons remain locked until the preceding requirement is complete; in Free mode, you can open them in any order.
The last page of a lesson has Submit instead of Next. If something still needs doing first, such as a knowledge check or an interactive module, a note above the buttons says what.
Completing an Online Lesson
- Work through each topic or page in the lesson
- Complete required knowledge checks, formal assessment questions, and SCORM activities
- Submit the lesson when every required response is present
- If trainer review is required, return after it has been marked to view the result and feedback
Interactive (SCORM) modules
Select Launch to open an interactive module. It plays over the whole screen, with its title and status at the top. Select Exit module, or press Escape, to return to the lesson. If you leave a module part way, the button reads Resume. A module's own full screen button also works.
Optional questions
You can leave an optional question unanswered and still submit. If you clear an answer you gave earlier, such as deleting your text or unticking every choice, the cleared answer is saved and is not marked.
The lesson only counts as completed after its assessment and activity rules are satisfied. Completing every Online Lesson does not override separate unit competency, attendance, or certificate requirements.
Assessment results and retries
When a formal assessment needs trainer review, it shows as Awaiting Review until it has been marked. Once marked, open it from the course sidebar to see your result and any feedback.
If a result is Not Satisfactory, click Try Again to reattempt it. The retry is designed to be focused:
- Previously-correct answers are locked in: questions you got right on the earlier attempt carry forward automatically and can't be edited.
- You only redo the questions that need another attempt: the retry clearly identifies what's left.
- Your previous answers are preserved even if you abandon a retry and come back later.
- If you have no attempts left, your trainer can give you extra attempts. Extra attempts reopen every section that ran out, so you can change the answers that need rework.
Some assessments may display a copyright notice at the bottom, indicating the assessment content is provided by a third party.
Previous certification uploads
Some courses require you to upload evidence of existing certifications before your course can be completed. If your course has certification requirements, you'll see a Previous Certification section in the course sidebar. The Upload link on your enrolment page opens this same step directly.
- Click on a certification requirement in the sidebar
- Upload your document (PDF or image, up to 10MB per file)
- Your upload is sent to your trainer for review
Submit All Documents enables once every requirement has a file attached; until then the form lists what is still missing.
Each requirement shows a status:
- Pending: Uploaded, awaiting review
- Approved: Accepted by your trainer
- Rejected: You'll need to upload a corrected document (check the feedback notes)
When your RTO approves a certificate or licence, such as a first aid certificate, they may also record it on your student record.
Warning
Your course progress cannot reach 100% until all required certifications are approved. Upload them early to avoid delays.
Mandatory course documents
Your course may require you to review documents as well as finish lessons and assessments. Open the document checklist from Home or the enrolment page, read each mandatory document, then confirm you have reviewed it. Opening a document alone does not count as acknowledgement. These reviews contribute to course progress and must be complete before the enrolment can finish.
Requirements
When you first open a course, you may be prompted to enter your USI (Unique Student Identifier). You can enter it immediately or click Skip for now to access course content first.
If you skip, a collapsible Requirements section appears at the top of the course player showing outstanding items needed for your certificate:
- USI: enter your 10-character Unique Student Identifier
- Identity verification: verify your identity
- Third Party Report: nominate your workplace supervisor (if required)
You can complete these requirements at any time by expanding the section and following the prompts. Your certificate cannot be issued until all requirements are met.
Outstanding items
When you've completed all lessons but still have outstanding assessments or certification uploads, an amber warning banner appears at the top of the course player showing what's remaining.
The sidebar also highlights incomplete items with an amber indicator so you can quickly find and complete them.
Resources
Lessons and topics can include downloadable resources and external links. To access them:
- Open a topic in the course player
- Click Notes or Resources & Notes in the top-right
- Open the Resources section
- Click a file to download it, or click a link to open it in a new tab
The panel has up to two lists. Resources for this topic changes as you move between topics. Course resources stays the same on every page, because your training provider shared them with the whole course. A resource can have a short description under its title.
Taking notes
You can add private notes to any lesson page:
- Click the Notes tab
- Type your notes
- Notes are saved automatically
Your notes are private and only visible to you.
Third Party Reports
Some courses require a Third Party Report (TPR), a workplace competency verification from your employer or supervisor. If required, you'll see a prompt when you first open the course:
- Send & Continue to Course: Enter your supervisor's details and start learning immediately
- Skip for now: Access the course content straight away and complete the TPR later
If you skip, a reminder banner appears at the top of the course player with a link to nominate your third party when you're ready. Your certificate cannot be issued until the TPR is completed.
You can also open the enrolment's Requirements section and choose Request report. If a report is marked Not Satisfactory, the same action changes to Request again so you can nominate another person.
Deep-link URLs
Your training provider can share direct links to specific Online Lessons. Clicking a deep link takes you into the course player without navigating from the dashboard first.
If the linked content is locked in a Linear course, you'll be redirected to the next available item instead.
Progress tracking
Your progress is saved automatically. You can:
- Close the browser and come back later
- Switch devices: your progress syncs
- See exactly where you left off
A lesson you choose opens at the top. The browser's Back and Forward buttons return you to where you were reading. A SCORM 2004 activity you left part way resumes where you stopped. If your training provider turns on the LLND check while you are working in a course, the check opens before you can continue.
For Online Lessons courses, the progress summary combines every applicable course unit, concluded non-cancelled training session, and published lesson. A unit counts when it is competent, a session counts when attendance is Present or Late, and a lesson counts when it is completed. Future bookings stay outside the completion count. All applicable items must be complete before training can move to finalisation.
